| Welcome to the Technical Home of Formula 1000Please feel free to contact any of the Technical team for help and advice. Formula 1000 is now in its fifth year and running with a very large success rate indeed. Part of the success is down to the competitive nature of the members and the close performance of the cars. The Technical team is headed by Keith Markham, who’s been involved in rallying and other forms of motor sport for a good number of years and has a comprehensive knowledge of engines to ensure we keep on top of the rules. He has two assistants to help him with members’ questions as well as on event checks; they are Matt Gregory and Simon Povey. Matt competes regularly in his Peugeot 205 and Simon won the tarmac championship in 2005 so they are both very familiar the rallying scene. From the start we have enforced ruling about the cars to keep them closely matched on the stages, this has been successful to date, although we have had reasons to change the rules slightly over the past three years to ensure we don’t end up with a ‘one car’ domination within the Club. To keep the ruling safe and to prevent any misunderstandings or rule bending, the Technical team have carried out checks on events to ensure the cars are all running to the same specifications. These checks have included checking camshafts are the factory one litre fitments and also the cylinder capacity’s were checked on the top five finishing cars on one round to make sure nobody’s running a higher capacity to gain an advantage over the other cars in the club. They’ve also carried out checks to the transmissions to see if a competition limited slip differential has been fitted. All of the checks carried out so far have not found any irregularities in these areas, however, we have had a small number of cars that have had questionable modifications, and they were put right once the problems were pointed out, with full cooperation from the members concerned. The Technical team are always ready to help with any questions you may have concerning building a car from scratch or just keeping your car up to date with the rules, you can contact any of the team via the website or from the contacts sheet supplied with all member packs.
